I managed to capture this scene on a sunny winter’s day in January. It was so busy with people braving the cold to soak up the first rays of sunshine of the year at Wijk aan Zee. Shooting against the light makes the contrasts stand out more clearly. To me, this group of people looks a lot like a flock of penguins at the South Pole.

I am Martijn Wit and I like to photograph nature in my neighbourhood, but I also love to capture the city and the night. I love the play of light in combination with the vintage lenses I use.
