The walzkörpersperre is part of the Festung IJmuiden built by the Germans in World War II. It is a passage in the anti-tank wall that was supposed to stop attacks from the east by land. In case of emergency, the huge block of concrete could be rolled down, preventing anyone from passing through. Around it were defensive positions. It is owned by Natuurmonumenten as is the surrounding Duin- and Kruidberg nature reserve.
