Wild garlic are a wild relative of chives, onions and garlic. The species is native to Europe and parts of Asia and is usually found in moist woodlands, along river banks and in shady areas with rich, moist soil.
The leaves of wild garlic have a sharp garlic flavour and aroma, which becomes more intense when the leaves are crushed or chopped. Moreover, the bulbs have a mild garlic flavour and can be used in the same way as cultivated garlic cloves.
The Amsterdamse Bos is a large recreational area located south of Amsterdam. Located between the municipalities of Amsterdam, Amstelveen, and Aalsmeer, it is home to a wide range of plant and animal species. It features a mix of deciduous and coniferous trees, as well as wetlands, meadows and marshes. Wildlife such as birds, rabbits, foxes and deer can be observed throughout the area.
The forest was created in the 1930s as a labour supply project. The Amsterdamse Bos offers a wide range of recreational facilities and natural attractions. These include numerous hiking and cycling trails, picnic areas, playgrounds, sports fields and horseback riding trails. There are also several ponds and lakes where visitors can go boating or fishing.
The Amsterdamse Bos is popular with locals and tourists alike. In spring, the forest comes alive with blooming flowers and flowering trees, while in summer it offers a cool escape from the city heat. Autumn brings vibrant leaf colours, and in winter the forest offers opportunities for ice skating and cross-country skiing.
