About ‘Walk to Praia do Sardinha: Madeira’s rugged eastern tip’ by Steffen Peters

This striking landscape photograph captures the dramatic atmosphere along the hiking trail to Praia do Sardinha, one of the most remote and beautiful stretches of coastline in eastern Madeira. The image shows the striking, narrow path winding its way along the reddish volcanic rock cliffs. The perspective created by the safety railing invites the viewer to let their gaze wander across the rugged peninsula. In the background rises the striking peak of Ponta de São Lourenço, whilst the warm light of the low-hanging sun bathes the green slopes and rugged rock formations in a golden glow.

The contrast between the deep blue Atlantic, gently lapping against the cliffs, and the barren, almost desert-like vegetation of the east coast makes this image a unique testament to Madeira’s geological diversity.
