On a beautiful winter walk on the beach of Kijkduin. The beautiful blue sky hides the icy wind. In the background are the lighthouse and the Scheveningen pier can still be seen.
Around 1900, the seaside resorts of Scheveningen and Kijkduin were similar. After this has been a tremendous growth in Scheveningen. Kijkduin is thereby not kept pace. At this time Scheveningen is also much more massive than Kijkduin. Scheveningen has a large number of hotels, restaurants and nightlife. This is in Kijkduin many times less. This slow development of Kijkduin has partly to do with the flood of 1953 and the construction of the Debris Dunes.
Kijkduin lies in the center of the Delta Square. This square is again on the shovel to prepare Kijkduin for the future.
Believe it or not but Kijkduin has its own weapon. Arm Kijkduin has three dunes where the head of a stork watching over it. The stork is really Hague.
Scheveningen is still worn by a small proportion of the elderly costume. You see it almost impossible in the street, so it is something that slowly ceases to exist.
There are a number of surnames which occur mainly in Scheveningen. These names are Ball, Dijkhuizen, Korving, The Heijer, Knoester The Not, Plugge, Pronk, Rog, Spanish, Language, Toet, Cheerful, Zuurmond and Van der Zwan.
The Scheveningen Pier was opened in 1961.
