About the artwork

Paleispark Het Loo is a historic park in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands. It surrounds Palace Het Loo, a former royal residence that is now a museum. The park was originally designed in the 17th century in Baroque style by renowned landscape architect Daniel Marot.

It features symmetrical gardens, elegant water features, grand avenues and carefully manicured lawns. Visitors can explore the winding paths of the park, discover hidden gardens and enjoy the scenic beauty of the landscape. A popular destination for tourists and locals alike, the park offers a glimpse into the grandeur of Dutch royal history and the artistry of garden design.

Besides its Baroque features, Paleispark Het Loo also contains elements of English landscape design, reflecting changing tastes in garden architecture over the centuries.

In the park, visitors can encounter various architectural structures, such as pavilions, follies and ornamental bridges, which add to the charm and character of the landscape. The layout of the park is designed to offer visitors different perspectives and vistas as they explore the winding paths and wooded areas.

Palace Het Loo itself, with its striking architecture and rich history, is a major highlight of the park. Originally built in the 17th century as a hunting lodge for the Dutch royal family, the palace was later expanded into an opulent royal residence. Today, it serves as a museum, showcasing opulent interiors, royal collections and exhibitions that offer insights into Dutch royal life and culture.
