Adult ladies and girls in Walcheren costume often wear a long skirt, which is usually colourful and made of sturdy fabric. Above the skirt, they wear a jacket with a coloured beech underneath and an apron. An important feature is the head covering, which can range from a simple hat to a more decorated cap, made of Brussels lace, depending on the occasion. The colours and patterns of the fabrics are often vibrant and reflect local traditions. Attached to the cap made of Brussels lace are golden curls from which bows hang.

This costume is often worn during special events, such as folklore festivals or local celebrations, and it is a beautiful way to celebrate Walcheren's rich culture and history.

The costume is most likely not worn daily now, or the person must have become very old. It is also not practical because it takes a lot of time and skill to dress up for a woman.

Since I was born on Walcheren, costume was a very common street sight when I was a child. It is a nice familiar memory from my childhood.
