About ‘Waiting for its Next Prey’ by Arjen Roos

Waiting for His Next Prey is a powerful, narrative artwork that merges feminine power and masculine menace. Inspired by the fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood and the narrative photography of Erwin Olaf, this work depicts a contemporary scene full of tension and symbolism.

In the centre, a woman in a bright red dress walks confidently down a narrow Parisian street, straight towards the viewer. Her direct gaze makes the viewer part of the story. To the right, a man sits, depicted as a predator, half man and half wolf, calm but menacing, as if waiting for his next prey.

The carefully constructed composition with symmetrical facades, warm evening lighting and the iconic red dress is reminiscent of the Wes Anderson style. The colour red symbolises both passion and danger and is the visual focal point of the work.

This artwork is an invitation to reflect on gender equality, social safety and the way we view men and women in public spaces. A powerful statement piece that can spark conversation in any space.
