As a resident of Amersfoort, I love visiting Wagenwerkplaats - a place that makes the city's industrial past palpable, but is also fully alive in the present. I took this photo on a sunny day, with the light falling beautifully on the weathered facades and metal of the old workshops. I deliberately chose a wide frame to show off the mix of brick, steel and open space. The atmosphere there is always a bit raw, but that is precisely what makes this place so photogenic. It is a place full of contrasts: history and creativity, silence and bustle. Every time I discover new details here, from old train rails to modern art projects. For me, this is a piece of Amersfoort where past and future literally come together, and that makes photographing here special every time.
