Looking out over the water to where the water meets the sky. Cloudy clouds hang over the water and two trees keep watch This is how it feels when I stand at the edge of one of the fens on the Dwingeloosche Veld early one Sunday morning. The purple heather has drawn me here, but the views over the water grab my attention.
National Park Dwingelderveld is located between Ruinen, Dwingeloo, Beilen and Pesse in Drenthe. The park consists of vast heathlands, fens, burial mounds and beautiful forests. In the middle of this National Park lies, among others, the Dwingeloosche Heide, where you will find a sea of purple in summer. Scattered across the heath and forests are about 60 fens and ponds. In this national park you will find vipers, several sheep herds, cattle and much more.
