The Gamrig is a 253 metre high mountain in the Vordere Sächsische Schweiz to the east of Rathen. Due to its free-standing location above the village, it offers a far-reaching view over the Elbe Sandstone Mountains and especially over the Elbe valley. In the early morning, shortly after sunrise, I was able to enjoy this beautiful view of the Lilienstein.

The Lilienstein is one of the most striking mountains in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains in Saxony. It is the only table mountain on the right bank of the Elbe and is the symbol of the Saxon Switzerland National Park.
A flat plateau, almost vertical rock faces, a wooded base and open country all around. The 415 metre high Lilienstein is a striking sight. From up here you can enjoy a unique panoramic view of the entire Elbe Sandstone Mountains.

Saxon Switzerland is the name given to the German part of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains in Saxony. The landscape, characterised by bizarre rock formations, lies south-east of Dresden on both sides of the Elbe in the district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains.

In addition to the Lilienstein, there are numerous other sights in Saxon Switzerland. The Bastei with the Bastei Bridge, the Schwedenlöcher, the Königstein Fortress and the many unique rock formations such as the Schrammsteine, Carolafelsen, Kuhstall and Frienstein are very well known.
