About ‘Vietnam: Tram Ton bergpas (Na Hui)’ by Maarten Verhees

Voor een prachtig panoramisch uitzicht moeten de bezoekers uit Sapa naar de Tram Ton Pass. Met zo'n 1900 meter is het de hoogste pas in Vietnam. De bergpas wordt vaak aangeduid als "Heavens Gate", want de schilderachtige landschappen, die je hier ziet, lijken op een poort naar de hemel. De Tram Ton Pass is zo'n 15 kilometer van Sapa verwijderd ligt op de weg, als je naar de andere kant van de Fansipan (berg) en de Hoang Lien Mountain Range rijdt.Afgezien van een prachtig uitzicht, kunnen bezoekers ook getuige zijn van een bizarre klimaatverandering. Aan de Sapa-kant van de berg is het weer altijd hetzelfde, een typisch klimaat dat bijdraagt aan de mysterieuze sfeer van Sapa - koud, nevelig of zelfs mistig. Er heerst soms een druilerige regen op de weg naar boven op de Tram Ton Pass. Echter, als je pas passeert en een paar honderd meter lager naar beneden rijdt op de Lai Chau-kant dan kan her er kristal helder uitzien met een prachtig stralend blauwe hemel.Hevige winden komen waaien over de bergpas met als gevolg deze temperatuurverschillen - Sapa is de koudste plek in Vietnam, terwijl Lai Chau één van de warmste is. De Tram Ton Pass is de scheidslijn tussen twee grote weerfronten - en er wordt gezegd dat men letterlijk de lucht kon zien.
