Vases and leaves with abstract shapes in terracotta

by Valleifoto | Rick van de Kraats

A combination of natural forms, warm colours and picturesque textures gives this botanical still life a unique charm. At the centre are two earthenware vases with a weathered finish. Slender branches grow from the largest vase, bearing small dried seed pods and large, round leaves that are playfully scattered throughout the composition.

The background is composed of overlapping geometric planes in terracotta, sand beige and soft natural tones. This creates an interesting balance between the detailed botanical elements and the abstract forms. The subtle texture is reminiscent of lime wash, weathered stone and traditionally painted surfaces.

What sets this work apart is the combination of a classical still life with a modern, graphic design. The eye is first drawn to the warm, rounded vases and then discovers the delicate branches, organic leaf shapes and various layers of texture.

Thanks to its understated colour palette, this botanical art blends easily with existing furniture and home accessories. In a large format, the composition looks particularly striking above a sofa, in a spacious hall or on the wall of a stylish dining room.

This still life also creates a natural, inviting atmosphere in a business setting, such as a reception area, office or boutique hotel.
