About the artwork

Urban Chic' shows a beautiful woman with a large crown on her head and a tulle collar to give her a chic vibe. With her hair casually in the wind and her gaze straight ahead, she represents the strong, independent woman and steals the show.

There is an orange paint stain over her eyes, which immediately draws attention to her gaze.

A painting in Urban Street Art design. In this digital collage, I superimposed multiple layers of images and hinted into each other. The images vary from a portrait to fabrics and structures, texts and posters. This creates a layered portrait, with a delicious dose of brutality. A cool street art vibe of torn-off posters in the soft, modern, but also cool colors orange blue, brown, taupe, grey, black and white.

In the background, the Delft Blue tile shines through with birds, flowers and plants, to give the whole a wonderfully playful eclectic character. An interesting combination of classic and modern.

The delft blue tile pattern naturally reminds us of the time of the Golden Age, although the original dates from the early 18th century, namely 1725. In the Golden Age, Delft blue was designed out of pure necessity. The Chinese porcelain, imported by the overseas trade, was so incredibly popular among the Dutch bourgeoisie that the demand far exceeded the supply. This created a Dutch variant of Chinese porcelain, namely Delft earthenware. Initially completely in the style of the Chinese with drawings of Chinese landscapes and people. Later Dutchized with windmills, tulips, clogs and farmers' wives.

The original used for this collage comes from the National Collection of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and was made in Delft. It is a tile tableau of faience (a type of earthenware), consisting of 96 tiles, painted blue in the glaze with a flower vase on a pedestal. To the left of this is a parrot on a stick, to the right a rooster. The scene is surrounded on three sides by a border of leaf and flower motifs with cupids.
