About the artwork

In 1636, a library that can be called a Central Library was established in the Cloth Hall. This library grew during the following centuries, and after the abolition of the University of Leuven in 1797, it was transferred in its entirety to the École centrale of Brussels, an institution that was officially the continuator of the former university. The most valuable books and manuscripts were transferred to Paris and the Bibliothèque Nationale (formerly Bibliothèque Royale). It is likely that during the uncertain times after the French Revolution, quite a few books and valuable documents secretly followed a non-official path. Indeed, in many European libraries one can find books and manuscripts that are unmistakably from the old University of Leuven, such as the original foundation charter of 1425, which was in the seminary in 's-Hertogenbosch in 1909, or an incunabula that belonged to the jurist Henricus de Piro, which was in the library of Budapest at the end of the 20th century.

The rich archives of the former University of Leuven are now in the State Archives in Leuven. The University of Leuven, founded in 1817 by King William I of the Netherlands, also founded a library. In 1826, the librarian was Karl Bernhardi. He was succeeded by P. Namur.The core of the collection was formed by the works of the municipal library that the city of Leuven

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers. Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
