On the edge of the Eastern Scheldt lies the tidal harbour of Strijenham, unique, quiet and timeless. Tides breathe their age-old rhythm here; for centuries, activity prevailed here. Fair skippers loaded and unloaded their cargo from and onto the quay. It is the only remaining tidal harbour that lies in the open water of the Oosterschelde and dries out at low tide.
The sky reflects the character of Zeeland: wide, clear, a hint of melancholy in the light. Everything in this image exudes simplicity and authenticity of a place where nothing has to be done and everything comes naturally.
