About the artwork

U.S. Air Force Lockheed C-141 Starlifter.

The Lockheed C-141 Starlifter was a military transport aircraft of the U.S. Air Force. The aircraft had been developed and built by aircraft manufacturer Lockheed. The aircraft was to replace the C-124 Globemaster II in the '60s.

The prototype C-141 made its maiden flight in December 1963 and the first aircraft were delivered to the US Air Force in 1965. A total of 285 were built, most of which were destined for the Military Airlift Command. The Starlifter was used by the U.S. Air Force for many years. It was only in May 2006 that the last planes were decommissioned. The Starlifter's replacement is the McDonnell Douglas C-17 Globemaster III.

The aircraft in the photo is on display at the museum at US airbase McChord, Washington State. This photo was taken on 6 August 2024 during a unique visit to this airbase.

Registration: 65-0277.
Construction number: 300-6129.

Unfortunately, I have never seen the C-141 flying in real life, let alone been able to take photos's of it. Of the C-141's I have seen in museums, this one is by far the most beautiful aircraft. Despite the fact that this aircraft is outside, it is well painted and the exterior is in fine condition to the eye.
