The Twuyvermolen was built in 1663 as the last of the eleven mills that collectively drained the 5560-acre Geestmerambacht polder on the Raakmaatsboezem. The mills were all located on the east side of the polder and were indicated by a letter from south to north. The Twuyvermolen is therefore known as Molen A.
Originally, the octagonal indoor windmill (ground sailor type) was equipped with a paddle wheel, but around 1850, like most other mills, it was ironed. In 1926, after a probationary period of 2 years during which all the mills were shut down and only the pumping station in Zuid-Scharwoude regulated the polder level, the mill was taken out of operation and a few years later the running gear was removed and the waterways were closed. In 1974 the sails were renewed and in 2010 a new king screw and auger were installed. In 2018, a circular grinding circuit was constructed. With this, the mill is again grinding ready.
