Two women are talking to each other at a white set table, waiting for their meal on a terrace overlooking the sea. I can hear that they are speaking German, but otherwise I don't listen in. The cacti and stone wall provide a nice backdrop to their conversation, while the wicker chairs occasionally creak, as wicker chairs do.
I made this image while waiting for the house special at Terraza Playa in Puerto del Carmen on Lanzarote. I had been swimming and enjoyed looking out over the sea while I ate.
The ladies were happily surprised with their effigy and took pictures of it with their cell phones.
The work is a reminder of a nice vacation and it makes me aware that people enjoy being drawn. The waiters also enjoyed it and so I joined them for three meals. I can recommend both the fish balls, which are their specialty, and the calamari.
The atmosphere in the work is one of conviviality. The bond between the women is evident by how they sit facing each other.
The technique is pen on paper and the lines are clean and without shading, allowing for a lot of air.
This pen drawing is simple and clean and would fit well in a minimalist setting.
My work distinguishes itself by strong colours and clear shapes. I work with ecoline, ink and pencil, but I also like to cut and paste.
I get my inspiration from nature and like to daydream. Animals and people sometimes seem to melt together in these reveries.
