Two hens with prominent red combs are positioned against a light turquoise background. One chicken has a brownish plumage, while the other has black plumage with greenish "beetle sheen". The title "Two French Hens", after the famous Christmas song "The Twelve Days of Christmas", is based only on the French language ephemera in the background. The birds are not actually French breeds but crossbreeds derived from Dutch, English and Asian breeds on my little farm.
