Turquoise Abstract Painting: A Wave Glowing in Rainbow Colours by Surreal Media

At first glance, you see a fierce wave rising and breaking into a curtain of foam, but look a little longer and you’ll discover the explosion of colour looming right behind it: bands of purple, magenta, orange, yellow and green curling around one another like a rainbow sunset. Right at the very bottom, exactly where the horizon meets the wave, a thin ribbon of coral-coloured sunlight glows – something you only notice if you look closely, and which lends the whole scene just that little bit of extra warmth.

The work stems from my fascination with the sea, the coast and the beach: that mighty, ever-shifting force of the water, which is both soothing and overwhelming. I thought of the way a wave builds up just before it breaks – that moment of tension and promise – and wanted to capture that in colour rather than in realism.

The atmosphere is vibrant, warm and tactile: the deep ultramarine and turquoise of the water deliberately clash with the glowing, almost fiery explosion of colour behind it, so that cool and warm tones balance each other out. It is a painting that radiates energy – a sense of joy and wonder that you can rediscover time and again, with a simple message: colour is allowed to make you happy.

Technically, it is a digital artwork, constructed to resemble scraped and dragged paint that rises into genuine, sculptural peaks – you can see every stroke as a small relief, captured in the light.

In a living room, dining room or even an office, this piece brings that seaside energy indoors: it evokes memories of seaside holidays, of people who are always drawn to the water, or simply the tranquillity that a view of the waves can bring.
