Alberto Giacometti (1901-1966) was a Swiss sculptor, designer, painter, draftsman, author. He was one of the most important masters of modern European sculpture of the 20th century. His work was mainly influenced by such artistic styles as Cubism and Surrealism. After World War II, the thin and elongated figures emerged. He depicted the full and the empty. The being and the not being. Never satisfied, sometimes destroying work and starting over. Nothing was ever finished for him. "The Man Who Walks"(1960 multiple versions) is pure still movement. Naked and vulnerable. He became very famous for his walking men, they became his calling card. An image of this sculpture appeared on the back of a 100 Swiss franc banknote.
