The waterfalls of Triberg are among the highest in Germany.
The water of the river Gutach falls here over an altitude of 163 meters from 872 meters to 711 meters above sea level. The upper reaches of the waterfall are less spectacular. There is a small hydroelectric power station here. The Gutach plunges from a sloping plateau over more than 7 large steps into the rocky V-shaped valley of Triberg. The deep valley expands slightly here so that there is room for the village of Triberg. The steep cliffs and waterfalls are formed by two cracks in the granite and then by glaciers in the Pleistocene.
