This picture is made of a beautiful natural color pattern on the water of a stream. It seems like an oil spill, but it's definitely not! On sandy bottoms, water can contain dissolved iron molecules that, when they surface, react with CO2 to iron carbonate. This iron connection floats on the water surface and is transparent. By reflecting light rays, color scattering occurs and beautiful color patterns emerge.
