Beautiful grey beech tree with many trunks growing form its roots on the misty slope of a mountain. These trees are particularly vulnerable to harsh winds and every year that we return we find that many of these trees have succumbed. This beautiful tree with many trunks growing from one root system is on a steep slope and is amazing in every single way. It is not in a woodland, so it stands there unprotected from the wind, but it managed to survive. These trees are usually pretty gnarly and never tall. Tall trees like we have in our flat country would not survive in these environments. They grow slowly at these high altitudes and have a special charm. You can sense by their weathered appearance what kind of life they have and yet, they are so elegant and enchanting. I decided to photograph this tree as a portrait to make this the one and only subject.
