About ‘Tradition and work in the Salar’ by Frank Photos

In the heart of the white immensity of the Salar d'Uyuni, in Bolivia, a timeless scene unfolds: the salt harvest. This salt desert, the largest in the world, covers more than 10,000 square kilometres. Here, workers use simple tools such as shovels to gather the precious mineral into small, carefully aligned mounds. These heaps glisten in the intense sunlight, creating reflections that amplify the surreal beauty of the landscape.
Harvesting salt, an age-old tradition, is essential to the local communities. Once extracted, the salt is cleaned and processed before being sold on Bolivian markets or exported. This activity, although rudimentary, represents an important source of income for families.
The contrasts between the brilliant blue sky and the immaculate whiteness of the soil make this a magical place to photograph. Visiting the Salar d'Uyuni while observing the harvest is a unique experience that combines spectacular nature with human traditions.
