Vieux Lyon is the old historical district of Lyon, France. Today considered as a Unesco World Heritage Site, Lyon has a rich history related to the silk production and the Canuts (former silk workers).
Traboules, on the other hand, are passageways and corridors between old buildings. They connect several streets. A way of getting closer to the history and culture of Lyon is through their traboules, because they are related to the Canuts in the 1800s. They used to carry their goods from the river, to the markets in the city center walking through these covered passageways. Traboules played an important role also in the Canut revolt.
Many years later, Lyon being the center of the french resistance in World War II, traboules served also the purpose of hidding from the enemy.

They are often dark places but still somehow charming and enchanting, and without a doubt part of the local identity. Taken from below, this point of view allows to see details of the architecture, ending on right angles on the roofs.
