Torii Kiyomasu II was an important Japanese ukiyo-e artist of the 18th century. The ukiyo-e art form is known for its woodcut paintings and prints and is characterised by the depiction of scenes from urban life, portraits of actors and elegant women in kimonos. Kiyomasu II is particularly known for his elaborate depictions of actors and grace in female beauty. His artistic legacy significantly shaped the development of the ukiyo-e style and exerted a lasting influence on subsequent generations of artists in this tradition. Although many details of his life and work have been lost over time, his importance in Japanese art history remains undisputed.
