Because of the rugged landscape, climb levels and different weersomschakelingen the Tongariro Alpine Crossing is one of the most beautiful but also one toughest day hikes on earth. The day started with rain but greyish in the early afternoon it cleared up and made for wonderful 360 degree vistas include the Emerald Lakes and Mount Ngauruhoe. I could by a burst unfortunately not walk further than this point. Was to smoke in the distance of the small eruption that took place two weeks before.
