A watercolour of the Titanic's final moments as it disappeared beneath the waves. A work by Charles Edward Dixon (8 December 1872 - 12 September 1934) a British maritime painter of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The work had been published in the magazine "The Graphic" of 27 April 1912. This is a digitally restored and toned version based on two digital photographs'of the original magazine. The original is in the public domain as the artist died more than 70 years ago.
Meanwhile, we know that the Titanic broke into two pieces when it sank; this was not known at the time this watercolour was created. It was also published barely 12 days after the actual disaster.
