Top of the iceberg, the Alps, Switzerland. Eternal snow that lies on top of a mountain and stays there all year round. The snow that remains, however, no longer resembles the soft, just fallen, snow. It's more like a hard, white layer of ice. As the layer of eternal snow builds up on a mountain and becomes thicker, it finally starts to flow down slowly. This creates a glacier that can be several kilometres long.
