The Fanal forest on the Portuguese island of Madeira. A forest consisting of bay trees. But of a different species of laurel than the leaves we add to our food. Some of the trees are ancient and they thrive in the often humid conditions on this part of the island.
Strong winds and probably the age of this tree caused it to snap. The crown is out of alignment and touching the ground. Yet the tree continues to grow as normal.
