About ‘Tides of the soul’ by Niek Traas

This artwork shows an organic, layered composition reminiscent of the cross-section of an oyster or a geological formation. The flowing contours and rich colours - deep blue, cream, pink and gold tones - evoke a sense of natural erosion and growth. The texture seems almost tangible, with paint building up like sediment layers and flowing out in droplets at the bottom. This work symbolises the layering of emotions and experiences, shaped by time and environmental influences, just as a pearl develops within an oyster.
