This is one of my own Tibetan singing bowls, I have quite a collection. This one is very old, an antique in fact. It is small and sits in the palm of my hand. It has Buddhist symbols etched into the outside and inside of the metal bowl. As I use the wooden mallet and press it firmly against the rim, I make a circular motion so the mallet goes around the rim of the bowl. I start off quite hard and fast until the bowl begins to sing, a beautiful tone with varying levels and it feels like my hand is vibrating. The sound is then maintained by continuing to move the mallet slowly around the edge. The sound, and vibrations, are very relaxing. Buddhist monks use these bowls as part of their meditation practice.
