In recent years the Zuidpolder in Barendrecht, which covers about 170 ha, has been transformed from an agricultural area into a versatile nature and recreation area (110 ha).
On the east side the Zuidpolder is bordered by Heerjansdam (Ziedewijdse dijk and Noldijk) and on the west side by the Koedood. On the north side the Middeldijk forms the boundary and on the south side the Achterzeedijk. Across the polder runs a historic waterway which in the east is called the Kleine Duiker (Small Diver), in the middle the water is called the Groote Duiker (Big Diver) and in the west the Gaatkesplas, which is shown on old maps as Zuidpoldersche Boezem. This is now much wider than it was then.
Versatile recreation area
In the Zuidpolder recreation area you can run, walk, cycle and discover the nature, for example via bridges that cross the water like a winding path.
