Phnom Sampeau, one of Battambang's emblematic hills, offers a breathtaking view of the Cambodian countryside and its majestic temples. Located around fifteen kilometres from the city, this sacred site is home to several pagodas and caves steeped in history. Climb the paths to discover Buddhist sanctuaries adorned with gilded statues, detailed frescoes and an atmosphere imbued with spirituality. At the top, the panoramic view stretches over green plains and endless rice paddies.
As well as its religious importance, Phnom Sampeau is also a place of memory, marked by the tragic history of the Khmer Rouge. The famous skull cave bears witness to this dark period. Today, however, the place inspires peace and wonder, particularly at sunset, when the golden light caresses the temples and hills. In the late afternoon, thousands of bats leave the caves in an impressive ballet, adding to the magic of the site. Phnom Sampeau is a must for anyone visiting Battambang and wishing to discover authentic Cambodia, a blend of nature, culture and spirituality.
