The Gein is a small river about 6 km long between Driemond and Abcoude. It connects the Gaasp and the Smal Weesp with the Angstel, and runs west of the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal entirely within the borders of Abcoude,[1] since 1 January 2011 municipality of De Ronde Venen. Until 1 August 1966, however, the eastern part, beyond Velterslaan, was in the former municipality of Weesperkarspel and from 1966-1989 in the municipality of Amsterdam. The part within Abcoude up to the Angstel is called, because it is very narrow there, the Nauwe Gein where the Bridge Nauwe Gein connects the Kerkplein with the Hoogstraat.
