The most striking outfits in all of Düsseldorf are the Gehry buildings, also known as the 'dancing buildings'. Canadian-American architect Frank O. Gehry designed the three building complexes erected between 1997 and 1999. They have since become one of the symbols of Düsseldorf. With their particularly whimsical shape, materials as well as colours, they are striking asymmetrical sculptures. The middle building has a metallic-coloured façade made of stainless steel, thus mirroring the other two outer façades consisting of white and red brick. The dancing buildings perform a function as office spaces. In the foreground, the harbour with pleasure yachts.
