The Kaagmolen is a polder mill that was built in 1654 to drain the Kaagpolder. De Molen is located in the outskirts of Spanbroek, in De Kaag (a polder neighborhood that was seen as an independent place in the 19th century). However, the postal address is Opmeer because although it is on the edge of Kaagpolder, near Berkmeer and opposite De Lage Hoek, the address has been assigned to Nieuweweg.
In 1854, the Kaagmolen was fitted with a mortar. In 1879 a steam pumping station was placed next to the mill, which functioned as an auxiliary pumping station; the main drainage was done by wind power. In 1959 the steam engine in the still existing pumping station was replaced by a diesel engine.
Since 2001, De Kaagmolen has been owned by the De Westfriese Molens Foundation. The mill cannot be visited.
