Rotterdam's old water tower in De Esch was designed by architect C.B. van der Tak and built in 1871-1873. A number of workshop halls also designed by him are part of the complex.
This water tower is the oldest surviving water tower in the Netherlands. The water tower has a height of 48 meters and has seven water reservoirs. The tower had a water reservoir with a capacity of over one million liters. This made the tower one of the largest water towers in the Netherlands. The tower was designed in an eclectic mixture of Neo-Romanesque, Neo-Renaissance and Oriental styles.
