The nature park is known for the Yosemite Valley, a valley created by glaciers with granite rock walls, of which Half Dome and El Capitan are the most recognizable. U-valleys such as Yosemite Valley and Hetch Hetchy are carved by sliding glacier ice that accumulated during the ice ages in the Sierra Nevada. Of the four million visitors that the park attracts each year, the majority spend their time in the Yosemite Valley. The park also includes high mountains, clear mountain rivers and waterfalls and rare giant sequoia forests such as Mariposa Grove. Yosemite is almost 95% protected as a wilderness area and is home to a large biological diversity.
