A close-up of the railing of the Rijnhaven Bridge in Rotterdam, to which dozens of couples in love have attached a lock, as a seal of their love. The custom can be traced back to the Milvian Bridge in Rome and Federico Moccia's novel Ho voglia di te. But it probably happened earlier in other parts of the world.
The bottom of the Rijnhaven must be full of the corresponding keys, because they are thrown into the water after the ritual. Incidentally, ironically, the "official" Rotterdam nickname for the Rijnhaven Bridge is the Whoremonger, in reference to the past of neighboring Katendrecht.
