The kingfisher, or alcedo in Latin, is such a beautiful bird, and I sat down in a photo viewing hut for this picture.
I have managed to photograph the kingfisher before in the Amsterdam Water Supply Dunes, but always from quite a distance, you don't want to disturb the bird and they are quite shy. Still, they make themselves heard well, when they catch a fish, the splash is clear.
And while flying above the water you can see the blue flash, as they are also called. The kingfisher is so incredibly fast, I haven't (yet) succeeded in photographing it in flight. With such a colourful bird, I also made the background a bit more colourful, to complete the picture.
