A beautiful sunrise along the banks of the Meuse. This beautiful river forms the border between Noord-Limburg and Noord-Brabant. On the Limburg side lies just north of the town of Gennep, the Genneperhuis nature reserve. A place I like to come on an early, cold morning. The Genneperhuis was a castle and fortress at the mouth of the River Niers in the Meuse near the town of Gennep near Milsbeek. Up until 2009 there was hardly even a ruin, only the crowns and elevations in the landscape still give an impression of the size. The area has the status of a protected monument. n 2009, a partial reconstruction was started around the castle ruins and crown works and canals will be made visible again. Pilot trenches were also dug near the Bloemenstraat to provide insight into archaeological peculiarities. The work was completed in 2010 and the area is now accessible as a tourist attraction. Five footbridges were laid on the foundations and a bridge over the River Niers was also placed.
