The impressive coastline of the Faroe Islands.
The Færøer are an autonomous part of the Kingdom of Denmark. The Færøer Islands consist of 18 islands, 17 of which are inhabited (total population over 48,000) and have an area of 1400 km. The capital of the Faeroe Islands is Tórshavn, also known as the world's smallest capital, located in the North Atlantic Ocean, about 430 km southeast of Iceland. The name Færøer probably means sheep islands, literally translated from Danish means får sheep and øer islands.
