The crossover is a true blend of cultures, centuries, styles, genders and ethnicities.
This digital painting is a nod to the supposed portrait of Maria Trip by the great master Rembrandt van Rijn, but in a literal new form. The golden age gets in touch with the hippie culture of the 1960s, where floral robes, bare bellies and big hair bunches reigned supreme.
As early as the culture of the bourgeoisie, the Golden Age of Holland, the Netherlands came into contact with other cultures through overseas trade. Many exotic objects such as Persian carpets, Chinese porcelain and tulips from central Asia and Turkey were embraced in our Dutch culture.
In Postmodernism at the end of the 20th century, we go a step further and cultures are not only embraced, but completely blended with each other. There is no longer any belief in grand narratives, so no belief in rules either. Cutting and pasting forms the basis, art history is a grab bag, and style quotes are applied in multiples with many ornaments. Whether it is architecture or painting or photography.
This digital painting clearly has Postmodern influences, with collage, experimentation and the playful predominating.
With colors like pink, red, black and white, this work gets a powerful look.
