Cosmos is a genus of the composite family (Asteraceae or Compositae).
According to the Flora of North America and the Flora of China, the genus consists of approximately 26 species. The Plant List accepts 39 species names.
The genus consists of annuals, perennials, and dwarf shrubs. The species occur naturally in tropical and subtropical America, particularly in Mexico. Elsewhere the plants are naturalised. Some species are cultivated as garden plants. source wikipedia
