The beautiful Sneeker Waterpoort is over 500 years old and was once built to close off the waterway to the city. Today, it is the only remaining watergate and the symbol of the city of Sneeken all of Friesland. And it is truly beautiful, from the sloop I was on I had a great view of the watergate and its reflection.
I made this version sepia. That way there are no distracting colours and it gives a nice contrast but it is softer than the black and white version. Using sepia tones in a photograph gives a brownish hue reminiscent of old photographs from the 19th and early 20th centuries. This technique was originally used to improve the durability of photos. Nowadays, sepia is often used digitally to give photos a vintage and nostalgic look, with a warm, soft atmosphere and more focus on shapes and textures.
