Sneek is a historic city in Friesland, a province in the north of the Netherlands known for its lakes, canals and the Frisian language. The city is a centre for water sports and organises the annual Sneekweek, one of Europe's largest sailing regattas.
One of Sneek's most iconic structures is the Waterpoort, built in 1613 as part of the city's defences. The Waterpoort is an important symbol of Sneek and a popular tourist attraction, known for its picturesque appearance and historical significance.
