In this black-and-white photograph of a street scene in the beautiful Italian city of Florence, an elderly busker 'a fiddler' sits on the pavement near a crosswalk, concentrating on his violin playing.
He is dressed in a neat suit and has a hat on his head. His attire is well-groomed, although time has left its mark on the fabric.
The background shows a wall with heavy stones of ancient Italian architecture. And the kerb looks like it has been there for centuries.
All the elements in this picture, consisting of the violinist, the traffic light, the kerb, the heavy stone wall give the image a specific character and a very playful and almost abstract composition, partly because of the tessellation.
The atmosphere is calm and timeless.
I shot this picture in Florence in 2008 and during a tour of Tuscany.
